Event-Driven System Engineer (Geneva)
Description
We are seeking an Event-Driven System Engineer to join a global organization based in Geneva. This role is focused on building and optimizing large-scale, real-time data streaming architectures. The selected candidate will play a key role in supporting event-driven systems, particularly those powering next-generation Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) AI applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement large-scale real-time data streaming pipelines using Apache Kafka, Flink, and Beam.
- Develop and manage real-time data transformation and enrichment processes.
- Integrate streaming pipelines with existing lakehouse architectures.
- Collaborate closely with AI engineers and data scientists to support real-time inference and RAG pipelines.
- Monitor, tune, and ensure performance, resilience, and low latency across the streaming architecture.
- Apply observability and alerting best practices to maintain pipeline health and data integrity.
Minimum requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in streaming data architectures or real-time data engineering.
- Deep hands-on expertise in Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, and stream processing frameworks (e.g. Apache Beam).
- Proficient in programming with Java, Python, or Scala.
- Strong understanding of event-driven architecture patterns and design principles.
- Experience with cloud-native streaming services (e.g. AWS Kinesis, Azure Event Hubs, GCP Pub/Sub).
Other Required Skills
- Experience working in complex, multicultural, and global environments.
- Familiarity with DevOps principles and agile delivery models.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset.
- Excellent English communication skills are mandatory; French or Spanish will be considered a valuable asset.
- Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work independently in a dynamic environment.
- Valid Swiss work permit or EU citizenship is mandatory.
